BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA — Dark alternative outfit, The Jesus Cleaver, today announced the release of their first music video, premiering on YouTube*. The song, “Mercy”, is the first single from the band’s upcoming follow-up album, “Life In Clouds”, currently in production.
Written and produced by the band’s founder, John P Shea, the video features a lo-fi, tech-noir aesthetic, which is used to full effect in mirroring the emotive lyrical content of the song.
“Mercy” opens with energetic footage of the singer, cloaked in a simple moving geometry which emphasises the detached and frantic nature of the performance. The video then transforms into a deeply personal exploration of per-determined parting and loss. This theme dramatically unfolds before the viewer, who journeys in close “arm’s length” proximity as they witness the before, during, and afterward states of mind as the song moves towards its inevitable conclusion.
A climatic ending wraps up the video, with only a single party remaining – their ongoing isolation beautifully underscored in the very last scene.
The video can be streamed in 1080p HD at:
